Dear COR Herp Members,

I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season! I know its a crazy time of year so I will make it quick. No meeting this month. With the holidays and cold its simpler to pass for now. I am however looking for places to hold the next few meeting. I am open to suggestions. Email me if you have any. :)

I would like to thank Jodi and Tracy for all the hard work they have been doing with the two Red Tail Boas they rescued. Each was in really bad shape but are coming along very well. We are so lucky to have two members who are so knowledgeable with exotic medicine!

Jodi is looking for a 55 plus gallon tank for donation that will go with her rescue red tail to the foster home she has lined up. Tracy will be looking for an adoptive home or foster home for the rescue she is working with. If you think you can help, please email me (Sarah) and let me know. I will need all your contact info (including phone number) to pass it onto Jodi &/or Tracy.

Jan 21st is the date for the next Portland Metro Reptile Expo. You can find all the info as well as $1 off entrance coupons at http://pdxreptileexpo.com/

Last but not least, I would like to remind you all that when shopping for supplies (and presents) for your scaly family we have a wonderful, locally owned, reptile store in Bend.

Reptopia

31 NE 2nd St., #2

Bend, OR 97701

541-323-3399

Best,

Sarah

November 2011

COR Herp Newsletter for November 2011

Hello! Hope this newsletter finds you all well. I'm going to be sending out regular monthly news letters from now on. I know this has been a long time in the coming and I apologize for not doing it sooner but life gets in the way. The newsletters should be sent out the first Sunday of each month. If you don't get one during that week please shot me an email and I will resend you a copy.

We will not be having a meeting for the months of November and December. I would love to hear suggestions for meetings after that time.

A reminder for the Portland Metro Reptile Expo to be held January 21st, 2012 10-4 p.m

Holiday Inn 25425 SW 95th Ave. Wilsonville, OR. I'm more than willing to help arrange for car pools for people who are wanting to take a day trip up. Just email me your name if you are willing to dive and would like some help with gas or need a ride. I will do my best to help arrange it. Though I and a few other people will be vending at the show so we wont be able to offer rides to anyone unfortunately.

Some news that we should all be aware of is that some of the laws for exotic animal keepers in Oregon will change as of Jan. At this point it is to late to change anything about it. While this may not affect any of us directly this is just one more change that's moving towards limiting our hobby. The permit law is being changed. No permits will be issues for the following exotics as of now.

-- Felines not indigenous to Oregon, except for domestic cats.

-- Nonwolf canines not indigenous to Oregon, except for domestic dogs.

-- Nonhuman primates.

-- Bears, with the exception of the black bear.

-- Members of the crocodile family.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture does have a permitting process for exotic animal exhibitors, breeders, and dealers which will remain unchanged.

But for Oregonians who simply want to own such an exotic pet, it is too late for anyone who does not currently have the animal or who has not owned the animal for at least a year.

For anyone wanting to review the lists of prohibited non native animals in Oregon you can find it by going to Division 56 on Department of Fish and Wildlife's web page. Here is a link to the PDF.

http://www.dfw.state.or.us/OARs/56.pdf

As always please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.

Dec News Letter

Dear Member,

This month (Dec.) we will not be having a meeting due to people being otherwise occupied with the holidays.

News and Reminders -

Remember to check on your burmating and hibernating herps. Temps can be tricky this time of year and cool is good but too cold can be bad for some species. Heating blankets set on low can be a big help at night if you dont have a low watt heat bulb or heat system that can be regulated. *Remember - some Species will not breed if not properly cooled the winter before. Make sure to double check on breeding guidelines if you are unsure about your herps yearly cycles.

The Portland Metro reptile Expo will be held Jan 22ed. Remember to mark your 2011 calendars! More info listed on the forums.

Also I would like to get a list of SP people are planning on breeding in 2011. This will be a very useful list for us to have. Please look on the forum under the Trades and Adoptions section. Listed as COR Herp Projects for 2011.

Remember the forums. We have them so people can stay in contact, ask questions or just talk.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season.

As always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Best,

Sarah

ilunargecko@yahoo.com

http://corherpetology.webs.com/

Dear ****,

The Oct meeting will be held on the 24th at the Starbucks in Redmond (Rays shopping center). Starting at 3pm till whenever. :) Please RSVP in the post located on the forum under 'Oct meeting'. Or copy and paste the link below.

http://corherpetology.webs.com/apps/forums/topics/show/3510045-oct-meeting?page=last

At this meeting I would like to talk about working out a Secret Santa holiday gift exchange for the group. As well as group activities for next year. Herping and camping trips come to mind but please share any ideas you may have.

Also I would like any individuals who have experience with burmating, hibernating and cooling herps to consider talking at the meeting. Any information will be very helpful for our less experienced members who may have to do it this year for the first time. Remember not all sp. are the same.

As always feel free to email or call me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,

Sarah

Sept News

Dear Member,

The next meeting will be held at Terry's home (in Bend) on September 26th starting at 11:00 am. This meeting will take a good part of the day with BBQ and pot luck. Also a class will be held on making your own naturalistic tank background aka 'dirt wall'. As well as a 'how to' on doing your own biologically active tank. The dirt wall tanks are great for most kinds of herps while the Bio active tanks are great for small reptiles like geckos, inverts and most amphibians. The most suitable climates for bio active tanks are going to be tropical to temperate and water scape.

You don't not need to take part in each class (or any) to show up for the meeting. We would like all members who can come to show up for the food or just 10 mins to introduce yourself.

When the date gets a little sooner I will post a list of supplies (in the 'meetings' room on the forum) that we would like people to bring. Such as paper-plates and cups, food that sort of thing. Also in that post I will post the address. For reference Terry lives near the new cash n carry location.

Kids are more than welcome to come. They can even take part in the class if they like. I would like a parent working with the kids on the tank if they are under 12 years old. A parent must be present the entire time the kids are. No 'drop offs' please.

Dress code is grubby cloths! Things you don't mind getting glue, insulation foam and BBQ sauce on. :)

Other info includes:

- We have some rehomes posted in trades. A male Ball Python and an iguana. Also Stephanie has a very nice pythons for sale.

- I'm looking for people to help organize a camping/herping trip for next spring.

- I would like to start having a ' husbandry class' with each meeting (thats held in a home). Something to help us learn more about the different kinds of herps we are all keeping. If you have been keeping something specific for a while (couple of years) and would like to do a husbandry class on that herp please contact me via email. All I require is that you have kept the species for over 2 years, be versed in current husbandry requirements as well as common heath issues and general behavior. Having breed the species is a plus.

As always feel free to email or call me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,

Sarah

ilunargecko@yahoo.com

COR Herp

Monthly News

July 2010

The COR of it: Local info & meetings

Our first meeting is to be held July 11th in Redmond. You can find a goggle map to the location on calendar on the web page.

Each meeting I will be making a small optional assignment. This months is to bring a care sheet for any herp. I ask that the care sheet be in-depth and that it includes all of the following.

*Housing & handling requirements for adult/s.

*Average size/weight of a fully grown adult or breeding size.

*Temperature & humidity requirements

*Lighting requirements

*Diet and vitamin requirements

*And any other side notes on basic husbandry you can fit.

I request that the care sheet be a page long and no more. If you need to find a care sheet on line and edit it down that?s fine just make sure that you keep all the pertinent information as well as a web address for the original. I will also need two or more copies of your care sheet.

Please let me know if you will be attending. You can RSVP by replying to this email. If you are interested in an officer position with COR Herp. I ask that you join us for this meeting because we will be discussing it then. If you are intrested but can not attend please email me and we will discuss it. Office outlines are posted on the forum for you to look over.

Side Notes:

Just wanted to remind you all to take a minute and say high in the forum. We have lots of areas for you to make a post and chat. Some people have mentioned that?s its kind of hard to post pictures. When I?m posting I use photo bucket and use the ?direct link? url, copy that then click the little photo on the header bar of the post. It should bring up an area for you to paste the ?direct link? url. Any problems message me and I will do my best to help.

The Trade forum is up and going.
